Visit to Weilerswist 23rd -30th August 2002

Twenty-eight members spent an enjoyable eight days in our Twin Town of Weilerswist, Germany. The programme arranged for us was a mixture of culture, education and enjoyment. Metternich

Over the weekend we were invited to attend the Carnival Club festivities, firstly in Metternich and then in Weilerswist. We listened to live music from a silver band to one playing popular music, plus individual artists and enjoyed visiting various stalls selling local delicacies. The Sunday evening finished with a marvellous firework display.

Maastricht Monday we were given a guided tour of the historic town of Maastricht in Holland. It was a good blend of the old with the modern.

Bingo In the evening we discovered that our surprise event was to be a Bingo night. Our English members won many of the prizes.

Jim, Inge, Heine & Hazel Tuesday we visited a local working Printing Press Museum followed by a look around Weilerswist.

Wednesday we were given a guided tour round a Woollen Mill Museum in Euskirchen.

We were then taken to lunch at the Steinbach Brewery, followed by a beautiful walk around the lake.

Shanty Choir

In the evening we had a German/English Buffet night. The highlights of the evening were the local Shanty choir, plus the solo singing performance of our own member, Colin.

Flag4.JPG (6K) During the evening we presented our German friends with a flag representing the town of Whitnash.

Thursday we were taken to Oberhausen, which is a giant shopping complex. The ladies were very happy! Various goodbye parties were held in the evening.

Friday we said a sad farewell and now plans are going ahead for their return visit to Whitnash in 2003.
