Villebon sur Yvette visit to Whitnash 17th - 20th May 2002

A group of fifty-five members from our twin town arrived on Friday evening 17th to help celebrate the 10th Anniversary of our twinning. Due to a delayed flight they arrived quite late and, therefore, only a much-shortened reception was possible.

Saturday 18th a Spring Fair and Car Boot sale was held on the Acre Close Playing Fields. This included Craft Stalls, a young boy's football competition, Bouncy Castle, Bar-B-Q, and wine and cheese tasting courtesy of our French visitors. The day was a resounding success.
Saturday evening an English/French Buffet Dinner was held in the Community Centre. There were speeches and presentations made by both town Mayors, and the night ended with dancing to the band "Out of the Blue".
Sunday 19th a concert was given by the Royal Naval Association Choir together with the Villebon Choir which was most enjoyable. The highlight being when the two choirs joined forces.
Sunday evening a Free and Easy was held in The Whitnash Sports and Social Club. A Finger Buffet was provided by the Whitnash Twinning members and some impromptu entertainment by the Royal Naval Choir.
Monday 20th the majority of our French friends visited "Bliss Hill" (Ironbridge) and enjoyed a pleasant time round the village before catching their flight back to France late afternoon.
Six of the party including their Mayor were flying back at lunchtime, so they were entertained with Champagne and scones at the home of Hazel and Jim before leaving Whitnash.
Finally I should like to express my thanks to the following members for all their hard work in making the weekend a success.
Jean, Hazel, Carol, Cavin, Jen Colls, Jackie Eales, Jacqui Price, Jenny Heath, Joan, Gill and Brenda.
A special thanks to John Gately who was responsible for organising the Football Competition and presenting the French Mayor with a plaque.
