Gorden well what a man ok he is my aunts 2nd husband but is full of life dispite losing both legs to of the meny people I recall in the villae the fox family the banning core if talking was an olimpic sport she could have won gold ask a round and you will find more as well as bring your web site to life hope this gives you some ideas best wishes
Andrew Barton - Margate, Florida, U.S.A
Hi Steve, I was just browsing the site and noticed that the email address for our school is no longer accessible.
The new address is
whitnashprimary@2324.wgfl.net
Having only been there since 1996 I only recognise one of the names on the list. It would be good to see more, not only pupils but 'old' staff too. Especially if they have early memories to share.
Regards
Liz Stanley, Headteacher - Whitnash
Thanks Liz, I have updated the new address on the Schools page. It would be nice to see some more comments from 'old' or 'young' pupils or teachers, I have only had one brave teacher write to me so far, I think that the rest are shy!! - Steve
Good to see the old village. I grew up in Landor Road with my aunt and unc as well as my gran Terry and Jant Percox some may known Jant as the lady with the laddie dog I have not been to Whitnash for some 8 years and it is just a good site and brings back some good memorys of growing up in Whitnash if any one recalls me do email me and let me know what you are up to.
Andrew Barton - Margate, Florida, U.S.A
Thanks for your comments Andrew. This is exactly the reason I set this site up and it is nice to hear from ex-pat Whitnash folk who have such warm memories of the village. - Steve
My family and I lived moved to Whitnash from Leamington in 1972. Even though we were one of the first Asian families to live in the village (now a town) I have nothing but fond memories of Whitnash. I was 7 and my brother was 5 when we moved. We went to Whitnash Elememtary School then Campion High School. We lived on Green Close from 1972 to 1977 then Brunel Close from 1977 to 1987 then moving back to Leamington. I moved to Canada in 1990. Great website especially the pictures expect no pictures of Campion School. Does anyone remember me ? Bye for now.
Manjait Dhoot - Vancouver, BC, Canada
Great to hear from you Manjit, I hope you get some responses, if you do please let me know. - Steve
I'm currently in the process of buying a house in the whitnash area close to the golf club. The area seems very nice and I think I would be happy there. The only concern is the new airport. How will this effect whitnash. I know that if it happens its another 13 years away. Aviation technology will have improved by then and planes will probably be quieter. But its still a concern especially on house prices.
James Williams - Coventry
This is a hot topic at the moment and one I would like to hear some comment on. If anyone has strong views please let me know and if I get enough feedback I will put up a discussion section on the site. - Steve
I hope one day to visit england and your nice village
Tracy G Garcia - Greenville, South Carolina USA
It's always a pleasure to have a message from oversees. I hope that you are able to visit Whitnash one day, I'm sure that you will love it. - Steve
I was given this site from a friend I contacted through Friends Reunited Site. You may have seen acouple of my photos posted under Whitnash County Junior School? I recognised James Hunt's name from your visitors book. His sister, Pat, is holding the Inter Schools Sports Day Cup with myself, Linda Robinson and Odette Leacock at Victoria Park, L'Spa, in 1964! My sister and I were born in L'Spa but my sister and her husband, Dee and Chris Young, lived at 13 South Terrace for many years and several of my school friends live in Whitnash. This is really a great site and free too. Keep up the good work.
Andrea Witts (nee Taylor) - Brisbane, Queensland , Australia
It's lovely to hear from so many ex-pats. Thanks for your entry in the School Book too. - Steve
Love the site, will pass it on to friends
Carol Green - Cornwall
Thanks for your compliments Carol - Steve
Being born in Leamington Spa in 1959 and staying within the Warwickshire area up until 1978 I had many friends in and around the area. Now living in Australia. I came across your site accidently. If any of your residents come across my name and recognise me and wish to contact me that could be fun. Great to see that you have a site up and running.
Gary Bellamy - Kenilworth, Queensland, Australia
Nice address Gary, it's nice to hear from so many ex-pats. I have also added you in the People Directory, take a look and see if you would like to add any more detail, a photo for instance - Steve
Well done, the new site's wicked! I think it needs more about the football teams (pictures etc). Anyway, got coursework to do! Congratulations!!! Joanne aged 14
Joanne Herbert - Whitnash
Thanks Joanne, it's nice to have positive feedback. Do you have any photos you could send me? - Steve
I am surprised you have not mentioned the Whitnash Sports and Social Club in more detail. Our Junior Football is now one of the strongest in the Leamington Area. I started (resurected)Whitnash Juniors at the Club some 5/6 years ago (Time goes so quickly) with 2 teams, next season there will be 10 teams. We also have a Bowling Green and Tennis Courts, Table Tennis teams and Senior Football (Saturday/Sunday Leagues). We would like to have a Netball Team again if anyone is interested in running it.
John Hughes - Whitnash
John, if you could write me a piece on the Whitnash Sports & Social I would love to include it on the Sports pages. I will also add a Notice asking for a netball coach - Steve
I was in the USA visiting my Sister in Law when I saw your web site. I am still awaiting Photos of the site being used in USA.
David Clough - Whitnash
Thanks David, any photos would be most welcome - Steve
Just to let you know. The address of the Methodist church in Whitnash is: Murcott Road East, Whitnash Tel:426787 This from the Brochure Whitnash Town Council wrote for the year 2000( Millenium ) There is a lot of info in this brochure that might help update this wonderful site you have started here. Weather is fine this side of "the pond" as old timers used to call us.
Rodney Smith - Brandon, Manitoba Canada
Well Rodney, that was quick work, I have added the address to the Church page. Thank you for your kind compliments, I will look up this publication and update the site with the infomation. To keep you up to date with the weather over here... it is miserable and raining... as per usual! - Steve
Can anyone tell me the mailing, and hopefully EMAIL address of the Methodist Church in Whitnash. I have family that used to attend there back in the 1950-1970 era.
Rodney Smith - Brandon, Manitoba Canada
Hi Rodney, I don't appear to have either address on the Church page. If you get either of them before me could you please let me know, thanks. - Steve
Great website, Steve. I've lived in Whitnash for 3 years now, and continue to enjoy living in the town. Having read through the comments on the site, I've learnt a lot about the place I didn't know. Being particularly interested in local history I'd love to hear more about local past events, folklore or landmarks. Keep up the good work - I'll look back often.
Jeff Hurlock - Whitnash
Thanks Jeff. - Steve
This is such a nice site. I can't wait to visit next year with my husband. Thanks for getting me even more excited!
Angela Reynolds - Hurst, Texas, USA
Thanks Angela. Are you or your husband from Whitnash or are you just visiting? - Steve
While sitting at a computer in Dimond Springs California. It was great to be able to show friends to area I live .Thanks for all your work
David Clough - Whitnash
David, you've put your location down as Whitnash but are you in California now? - Steve
I visited Whitnash for my Grandmother's funeral. Her name was Catherine Race. I remember how lovely your village is and hope to visit it again one day!
Dannielle Chobot - Ellington, Connecticut,USA
Hi, I lived at 5 Kirton Close from 1973 - 1979 when I moved to the states. I have been in Michigan since. I am, however, always searching for sites about my home country. Enjoyed the pictures. Would love to get in contact with my friend Dora Wilson. Dora's husband, Pete, was a police man. They had two kids the oldest being Paul who was the same age as my son Alastair. The boys are now 26 and I suppose daughter Deborah must be 23 or so. How quickly time passes......... It any one knows Dora, please pass on my e-mail address.
Thanks, Gillian
Gillian Nix - Oxford, Michigan
If you have any luck Gillian, I would love to hear from you - Steve
I think the Whitnash website is a fantastic idea especially as i was born and bred there. But you really can`t mention St Josephs church without mentioning Father McKenna.
Clare Stanford-Ashby - Leamington Spa
Who could forget Father McKenna, he was a real character in Whitnash. I hear that he is starting up a new parish just as he did in Whitnash all those years ago. (Steve)
The picture of myself in the local sports ancient football section was taken with a very cheap camera and some very old film.
Jim Mc Garvey - Warwick
Hi Jim. The picture was taken with my old camera and the photo was kept in an old box. I have also put a couple more pictures on the Whitnash Juniors page. Do you have any that I could use? (Steve)
Great Site ! I lived in Golf Lane between err 1974 to 1982 We had moved from Barford after a death in the family.
David Clayton - London
If anyone remembers David why not drop him a line. Check out his entry in the People Directory as well. Thanks David. (Steve)
Great site steve, I don't know how true these facts are but.... The original name of the village is 'Whitnash on the Ocean', the ocean being a pond outside St Margarets church. The pond was filled in sometime aroung WW1, and is now the war memorial. Witnash is named in the doomsday book. There are several books about the village around - I have one somewhere in my collection- full of fascinating facts and excellent photographs. Anyway, great site - particularly enjoyed looking at Blackbridge and the brook, spent many many hours down there having adventures.
I was an active member of the youth groups run by the church in the 1970's. I made many friends who I have since lost touch with. The web site is great, but why not do a 'friends reunited' on church youth groups as well. Jim
Jim Johnston - London
Thanks for the info Jim, I must admit I hadn't heard of Whitnash by the Ocean before. I think that the Church Youth Groups is a great idea and one I will have a go at in the New Year. (Steve)
Previously of Whitnash, now living in Radford Semele. Visit my website at
www.kagee.co.uk
Kevin Everett - Leamington Spa
Only at Whitnash County for last five months of school year in 1959. Came to Whitnash from Leicester and stayed very local since then. Mother still lives in Home Farm Crescent. main interests around Whitnash centred on the playing fields behind the social club (soccer or cricket) and Black Bridge - spotting steam trains!!!
Bill Faulkes - Stratford upon Avon
Thanks for your comments Bill, (Steve)
Good site Steve, improving all the time. Keep up the good work. I have a number of old school friends from Myton who
came from Whitnash. Andy Gough, Nigel Robbins, Rob Wilson, Jackie White, Simon Titcombe and Mark Webb to name a few.
I've seen Rob, Mark & Nigel fairly recently and Jackie at a Myton school visit for our kid's about 2 years ago. As we
left Myton in 1977 - 79 we are all getting a little older but thankfully recognisable !! I haven't really seen or heard
anything of Andy or Simon since school so it would be good to hear from them. Vince
Vince Taylor - Radford Semele
Hi Vince, thanks for the compliments. I resisted the urge to put Radford Smelly as we are "all friends now".
I should point out to other readers that Vince and I have been friends for a long time (even though he comes from Radford... and is still rubbish at tennis!). (Steve)
A very good website, very interesting. I think you should do a team picture of the Whitnash s&s club reserve team
because they have just been reformed and are doing very well. great website
Enzo Cancilla - Whitnash (Coppice Road)
Thanks Enzo, if you have a photo that you could send me I will gladly put it on. Thanks for your kind words. (Steve)
Hi Steve, Finally got back to your page. I always thought Blackbridge was black, and it seemed much,
MUCH bigger than that! Acre Close still looks the same. Dad worked at the Lockheed up until 1961 ...
this photo will interest him. We still have trouble coming to grips with Whitnash being a town (I think this is all
a Socialist plot designed to confuse people such as myself)
TTFN ... ChrisR
PS Thanks for visiting my site.
Its different to yours, but all great fun! More photos going in after Christmas ... I'm having a long holiday
(stinking hot at this time of year) and can go take photos.
Chris Robinson - Auckland, New Zealand
Hi Chris, I think that Black Bridge has had some alterations to make it safer, I also seem to remember it being Black.
Thanks for reminding us that it is now summer down under, it is getting a mite chilly up here!! (Steve)
Hello there,
yes I have looked quite a few times - its great
I especially liked the photos of whitnash,
my grandparents lived in Home Farm Cres and I have used that phone box many
a time.
I also used to live down the road from Dave Moreton (FieldGate Lane) and
Rich knows all the Mcgarveys from Harrow Road out of the football photo. It
will be nice to get some more old pics I could email you an old school photo
from briar hill if you want it???????
Heidi Stone - Auckland New Zealand
Hi Heidi. I now have your photo and I have put it on the Briar Hill page. Thanks for that. (Steve)
Enjoyed the site! Nice to see the photos.
Julie Brown Nee Finch - Warwick
Thanks Julie, I may have some more soon when I get the film down to Boots. I must get a digital camera! (Steve)
I just found this site - it's excellent! I haven't got my scanner set up at the
moment, but I have at least 2 photos I'll scan for you, (possibly more) if you want
that is, they're a bit unusual - the two I mention are taken of the view outside my
bedroom window, so there's not much there to see of Whitnash (except a few well-kept
gardens ;-), though you can see the spire of St Margarets Church in one.
Anyway, further compliments on the site, might I suggest that you add a links section
for the pages of people living in Whitnash? I'd certainly be interested in one.
James Hunt - Whitnash
Thanks James, I really would appreciate any photos you have. I think that the Homepage link is a great idea, if
you send me your link I will add it to the site. (Steve)
Yesterday in the Whitnash Sports and Social Club there was great jubilation: a cup found in someone's attic was handed
to the Football Section!! It was dated 1909 and was to be played for on "WAKE DAY." Alas, no-one knows what day of
the year it is! I wonder if any of your readers can you throw any light on this?
Bill Wilkinson - Whitnash
Could anyone mail either myself or Bill if you have any information. (Steve)
Hi Steve, You've got some great stuff here on the Whitnash website, I think the photos are good. As connection speed
increases with the introduction of broadband increases more people get online then we'll get the recognition and
appreciation we deserve!! Regards, Ian. http://www.radfordsemele.net
Ian Mayman - Radford Semele
Thanks Ian, good luck with the site. (Steve)
Hi,Just found this website, very good,we have only been living in Whitnash for the last month,we moved here from Tamworth,
Staffs. Its lovely,I'm sure we'll have many happy years here..
Amanda Turner - Whitnash
I'm sure you will Amanda, Whitnash is a lovely place to live. (Steve)
It is nice to see someone taking the time to do a page like this.
David Clough - Whitnash
Thanks David, time is something that this does take. (Steve)
I'm preparing for our visit from 28th October to 4th November this year. We - i.e. a group of about ten pupils and two
teachers - visit our twinning Campion School. I teach at Gesamtschule Weilerswist English, German and Social studies
and try to intensify our contacts. Some of my elder pupils (about 17-18 years) have asked if it was possible to be
integrated in the twinning visits? I'm looking forward to see your town.
Angela Schäfers - Weilerswist (school) Cologne (private)
I passed your comments on to the Twinning Association. I hope that you were able to meet up with them. (Steve)
I have enjoyed looking at all the info on Whitnash, i only looked on here by chance.
I have lived in Whitnash for years and will look for some old photo's for your picture Gallery.
I noticed your School names and i think Whitnash Combined School would be more noticeable for us
30+ to recognise. Thanks again.
S Fitzpatrick - Leamington Spa
Thanks for that, I have changed the page to show the old name. (Steve)
Cool Site r u going to put any pictures of StMargarets & briar Hill School on here Cause i went there!
Johnny - Leamington
Thanks Johnny. Do you have any pictures that I could use? (Steve)
An excellent original design for a piece of village webbery. One is very envious.
Hugh Issett of wetterfield.com - Wetterfield
May be nice to add some pics of the people of Whitnash................maybe old ones of people who've had an
impact on the place, and some contemporary ones too. Like the girl who said her great grandparents lived
there......those pics would be great! U could ask people tp provide little bits of info about their family.
Well, you have my 2 Rands worth now!!
Vasintha Pather - Chester
Hi,Just found this website, very good,we have only been living in Whitnash for the last month,we moved
here from Tamworth,Staffs. Its lovely,I'm sure we'll have many happy years here..
Amanda Turner - Whitnash
Hi Steve, just found this website - looks good. Like you I am disappointed in the amount of building work
going on, it's amazing how built up Whitnash is now. Although I've only live there 7 years (nearly 8!)
I was brought up in Tachbrook. Anyway, one thing I would like to know is are there any walking groups in
the area? Think there's a couple in Leamington but wondered if Whitnash had one.
Anyway keep up the good work!
Emma Leathersich - Whitnash
I agree Emma, I know that we have to have progress but it is disaapointing to lose the rural aspect of the village.
If anyone knows of any walking groups please post up some details. (Steve)
Hi, I am researching my great grandparents Elizabeth Adams and Adin Summers who lived for many years
in Whitnash. My great-grandmother Elizabeth died in 1956 in Whitnash so I presume she is buried there.
As I live on the other side of the world it was great to see photo's of your town, and get a better
understanding of my past. Thanks for the effort taken. Regards Rosemarie
Rosemarie Adams - Leeming, Perth, Western Australia
Thanks for your kind words Rosemarie. It's nice to have someone from the other side of the world visit the site. (Steve)
ur site rocks, woz readin' u went to st joey's me too. but the only three teachers i knew that
u mentioned were mrs commins, pieroginski (could never spell it) and mr bewick. we used to have
mr duggan as our head teacher. anywas loved the site. bye
Vicki Bromley - Whitnash
2001 is the 30 th anniversary year of 1st Whitnash Scout Group. I have been a
Leader here for 19 years and would be happy to hear from any of our "old boys".
John McMahon - Whitnash
It would be nice to have some more info on Scouting in Whitnash. If anyone has anything to contribute, whether
it be current or memories, please write in and if I get enough maybe I could dedicate a page to Whitnash Cubs
and Scouts. (Steve)
I think your web site is wonderful. It made me reminisce about my old school days and friends.
I remember how kind everyone was when my mother died and how the whole village gave us their support.
Would people be so helpful these days I wonder? I have many happy childhood memories of Whitnash and I
think its fantastic that someone is keeping our memories alive. Thank you.
Fiona Ersahin
Spent my youth in Whitnash, went to St Joseph's school in the 70"s, live in cork city now. The
connection between cork and Whitnash is very strong, so much Irish in the area. Nearly all the kids
I hung out with when I was small and went to school with were Irish, hope to pay a visit to Masters
Rd in the summer, maybe have a pint of guinness or three in the whitnash tavern, god bless you all ,mickmul.
Michael - Cork City, Ireland
Enjoyed your site, look forward to seeing more info when you get it. Unfortunately I have not lived that long
in Whitnash, only 15 years, but I would not like to live anywhere else. The only draw back now is the expansion
of Whitnash it was nice when it was still a village. I wonder if the old Whitnash people feel the same. Perhaps
one day you will be able to have a place on your site where they can put their comments for all to see & reply
back. When I see the AP photo its hard to believe that a few years ago it had approx 7500 people working there
and now its down to just a few hundred, even less soon, my husband started working there in 1969, but had to
retire 3 years ago due to poor health. Sorry I have gone on a bit, but best of luck with this site and look
forward to seeing it flourish.
Cath Harrington - Whitnash
This is the first time I've visited the web site, it's great to see all my old haunts. I left
Whitnash in 1992, still miss the old place. Hi to everyone old and new. Can you get a few pictures
of the brook. It was past St Margaret's Church - quite a few good summers spent there with friends.
Diane Drysdale (Dale) - West Kilbride, Scotland
Hi. Steve.
I saw your Dad's letter in the Courier and although I don't fit into the category of Ex
football team member or Ex school friend etc. I thought I would contact you anyway.
I have visited your website and it's looking good. However, I did notice there were 4
references to pubs on the picture page! I see you haven't changed much. I can't offer
any info for your website at present, but if I find out anything I will let you know.
Having said that I do remember a bit of the old Whitnash, when the main road went round
by Palmer Road instead of straight along where it is now. Also there was a duck pond on
the village green. In fact there have been a few changes since I was little. I don't
know what sort of info you need, but my mum will probably remember more of the old Whitnash.
Jean Morgan - Whitnash
Well done -- an interesting site and one with potential. Hope you get many hits.
Brian Boyle - Whitnash
Hi from Chris Robinson in New Zealand. Left in 1963 (aged 11 yrs) with my parents to
come to NZ. I've never been back to UK (come to think of it I've never been out of NZ,
but I still feel very travelled). I still get home sick, and it great to check out home
once in a while. Your pages are part of this for me. My oldest son passed through Whitnash
just before Christmas, and when he got back he spent some time orienting your photos for me.
You have just enough links for my purposes, and will use your page as my general starting
point for UK. Please could you add one of the larger UK sites, where you can find travel,
passport, entry info, and government regulations etc.
Chris Robinson - New Zealand
Hi,
I came across ur website, very good so far! Sorry I have no ideas but i think what
you've got so far will be cool when they're done. Also, they have a site for the bulldog,
they need a site for the Hodcarrier!!!! That's my opinion!
Lindsey Jollene - Whitnash
Hi Steve,
Congratulations on your pictures, a nice quality about them and a nice introduction
to the Town of Whitnash.
If you were to contact the Whitnash Society, I believe they could give you quite a
bit of help both pictorially, and historical information also. The Society meet once
a month on the second Monday of each month at the old new hall adjacent to the Sports
Club, you would be made very welcome. Photography plays a major part of their interests
along with the environmental aspects of the town.
Tom Roberts {Organist& Choirmaster}
St.Margaret's Church Whitnash
liked the layout of site, does anyone remember 'blue pool' i now live in Bedworth what a dump
Steve Margrave - Bedworth
...to put The Hodcarrier on your website as the liveliest pub in Whitnash!
